Musicians often suffer from stage fright or performance anxiety. Singers are especially affected since they are not just the performer but at the same time the instrument. CBT and other behavioral therapies or techniques can get to the root of what causes the anxiety or panic, but are limited in their efficacy in allowing a change into confidence and joyful musicianship.


Flow is a result of joyful surrender to a task.  Our bodies are the masters of flow and joy, not our heads. You cannot think our way out of panic or anxiety! Stage-fright is full-body experience. Your body seems to be on overdrive and unresponsive to any mental directives of should, ought and even to positive affirmations. You feel utterly helpless and at the mercy of your nervous system. You forget lines, music, words...your legs tremble, your puls races, your support is non-existent...your voice trembles....and on and on. 


Your body appears to sabotage all the beautiful things you want to experience and express. Sabotage really?! We certainly believed this narrative for a long time, however we now know this need not be so.


Conquering anxiety requires a willingness to contemplate the relationship you have with your body and your relationship to energy, expansion and surrender. It also requires you to go to the place you most fear - your body!
